After leaving New York the Bashore's settled in Millersburg, now Bethel PA George was born a native "American". In 1716 both Hans Jacob Boshaar and George Stump were living in New Heesberg, Schoharie Valley. George's family moved from Schoharie to Bethel Township. Before the erection of Bethel Township, and during the reign of King George the Second, of Great Britain, George Boshaar on the 13th day of August 1738, purchased the first tract of land in Bethel Township, containing 208 acres. This tract of land was purchased from John Penn, Thomas Penn, and Richard Penn, Esquires, the true and absolute proprietaries and Governors in Chief of the Province of Pennsylvania. On the 26th day of August 1765, they received from George Boshaar, the sum of seven pounds 16 shillings in money of Pennsylvania for the Quit rent for 18 years due on 208 acres of land being the tract within mentioned at Swatara Creek, formerly, Lancaster County, now Berks County. This deed was entered for recording in the Recorder of Deeds for the City and County of Philadelphia in Patent Book A, Volume 12, page 585, October 8th, 1747. One record says George died ca 1787 but another claims his Will was written 1785, probated 1787. Catharine Stump's brothers were: John, Caspar, Michael, and Abraham and her sisters: Anna Maria and Magdalena. Millersburg is now Bethel, PA - the location of two family cemetaries. The yellow Star in the map below is where Michael II and Michael III Miller Beshore lived. The Blue Star is where Israel (son of Michael III) lived. Michael I lived North, near Jonathan (Red Star). Most of the U.S. Beshore History is in Bethel (once called Millersburg) where Michael Sr, Michael Miller Beshore. and Israel Beshore lived on their farms (see map below)...Israel moved West in 1880 with his family to Kansas and then back to Bates County Missouri (West Central Missouri) in 1893/1894 - see notes below on children's birthdates.

Note on the map below the Bashore St.....north of which lived Michael Sr and Michael Jr and Jonathan K.
There were also "Michael Beshores?etc. var. sp." who were cousins and lived in same area at same time, i.e. Michael H, and Michael b. 1782. They are NOT in our direct line as best we can authenticate. The one Michael on the 1876 Map isn't the Michael b. circa 1760; he died in 1842. OUR Michael, b. 1788 d. 1874, (married to Sarah Miller 1809?-d. 1860) and my great-grandfather, lived in a separate household a few yards from his son Jonathan B. If you look at all the census recrod for that dist. for yrs. 1850/1860/1870 every thing becomes a lot clearer. Yes, there was my great uncle Jonathan (b. 1852) and a great-great uncle Jonathan (b. 1826), brother to Michael M., my great-grandfather. I'm giving these dates from memory, I don't have a copy of my tree in my hand at the moment. The Daniel "Bashor" you see on the 1876 Map I sent you is my great-great uncle, the tavern and livery stable owner. I have some stories about him written by his grandchildren. He was the "prominient landlord on the road over Blue Mtn". I have copies of his will and estate papers. SARAH and "Sallie" Kline are the same person. Her grave marker at the Merkey Meetinghouse even says SARAH "Sallie" Bashore. "Sallie" was her nickname. Wendell in PA The first guy who decided to spell the name Beshore? << The first spelling of Beshore comes from the first census taken in the US - 1790....it is here that all Boshaars who were in the Millersburg area took the Anglicized name of Beshore....later in 1830 the name of some changed to Bashore....DGB 14 Jan 2005 >>. Some of the family who, according to Francis Bashore's work, went to TN spelled the surname that way, BASHOR. Bashor is used on the Bethel 1876 map. You'll find a BASHOR FT somewhere. There was a Bashor from NY who lived in FL and did work on the his FT. In fact he made a list of all the graves in the Merkey Cemetery in Berks County, PA, where many of our FT members are buried. He traces his FT back to Bethel Township, Berks, PA., too. I know that Israel spelled his name Beshore and his brother Jonathan spelled his name Bashore and the third brother Elias spelled his name Boeshore. And old Michael Miller B. spelled/signed HIS surname as "BÖSHAR". It is a rattling situation we have to tolerate. The evidence for this is in the Michael Miller B. will I sent you. I didn't send all the 'accounting" pgs etc. I'll dig them out if you want them and fwd a cc.. Trust me, all FOUR spellings appear in Michael Miller B.'s Estate Records. It would be most, most unlikely that the will would name "my son, Jonathan exc." and have a man from another family serve as exc. In fact that would be unlawful and couldn't get through the probate without a "reassignment". I don't care how they spell their names, as long as we have the "correct" ancester in our FT. The US Census records 1850, 1860 and 1870 have a different spelling for our family name on EACH census. Did the Enumerator do this on his own or did the families adopt a different spelling every 10 yrs. Anyone can make many "intitutive hypotheses", but to what end? I believe the Enumerator was a different person for each census. Maybe HE decided to write what he heard from German speaking families and called ALL 'bayshores" according to his own liking, (the enumerator). Maybe the GERMAN speakers didn't really care how the "government man" spelled their name. It is possible they were MORE a part of their German Community and weren't concerned about correct spelling used by the "englisch". :-) I have thought about the variant spellings problem and stopped after a year or so of fruitless speculation. Look at the census records and you'll see that I am relating objective truth: US Census 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880. Wendell in PA
